An example of a proposed BRT station in Berkeley.

We invite you to join us in supporting AC Transit's proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project. BRT has the potential to attract many more bus riders in Berkeley and give people a good reason not to use their cars. BRT is an innovative transit system that can play an important role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transportation sector by giving people an alternative to the private automobile. At present private automobiles and light trucks in Berkeley are responsible for over 50 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions.

Friends of BRT is dedicated to building support
for BRT in Berkeley, California.

BRT is different from conventional bus service
in many ways.

It uses dedicated lanes, so it avoids traffic congestion
and moves riders to their destination fast.

It has specially designed stations that enhance
the streetscape.

It goes more frequently, so there's less waiting
for the bus.

In short, BRT is a lot like light rail. But building it
costs a fraction of what it takes to build light rail.

This website will continue to provide updates and
resources to keep you informed about AC Transit's
proposed BRT project.
